Why New Yorkers go motorized

Reach any window

Tall windows, windows behind the sofa or over the radiator, a row of six in one room: one tap moves them all.

Set it and forget it

Wake up to daylight, close for the afternoon sun to protect floors and furniture, and shut everything at dusk, automatically.

No cords at all

Safer for kids and pets, and a cleaner look: nothing hanging, nothing to tangle.

How it works

We set everything up at installation and show you how to use it before we leave.

1. Control it your way

Phone app

Raise, lower or set a position for each shade from anywhere.

Remote

A simple handheld or wall-mounted remote. Control one shade or a whole room.

Schedules

Open at sunrise, close at sunset, or at any time you choose.

Voice

“Close the bedroom shades.” Works with [Alexa / Google / Siri] through a smart hub.

2. Powering the motor

Best for most apartments Rechargeable battery

A battery built into the shade. No wiring and no electrician. Recharge it with a USB cable when it runs low; most last months between charges.

Best for renovations Hardwired

Powered by your home’s electrical system, so you never charge anything. Planned with your electrician during a renovation.

3. Shades that can be motorized

I can now raise and lower the shades with my iPhone, which makes the whole experience effortless and simple.

Is motorized right for you?

An honest guide. If motorized isn’t worth it for a window, we’ll tell you at your estimate.

Great for

  • Tall, wide or hard-to-reach windows, including behind furniture or over a tub.
  • Rooms with many windows, so one tap moves them all.
  • Sunny rooms, with schedules that protect floors and furniture.
  • Homes with kids or pets, since there are no cords.
  • Anyone with limited mobility, or who simply loves a smart home.

Think twice if

  • Budget is the priority. Motorized costs more per window; cordless shades are a great cord-free alternative.
  • It’s a small window you rarely touch. Many customers motorize the big windows and keep the rest manual.

Motorized shade questions

Do I need an electrician?

Not for battery-powered shades. They mount just like regular shades and charge with a USB cable. Hardwired motors do need wiring, so they’re best planned during a renovation.

How long do the batteries last?

It depends on the shade size and how often you use it, but most rechargeable motors go months between charges. The app lets you know when a battery is getting low.

Do I need Wi-Fi or a hub?

A remote works on its own with no Wi-Fi. To use the phone app, schedules or voice control, a small hub connects the shades to your home Wi-Fi. We set it up for you.

Can you motorize the shades I already have?

Usually not. The motor is built into the shade, so motorized shades are made new to your measurements. We’ll look at what you have during your free estimate.

Can I mix motorized and manual shades?

Yes. Many customers motorize the tall or hard-to-reach windows and keep the rest cordless. We’ll match the fabric so every window looks the same.
