Why New Yorkers choose custom drapes

Rooms feel taller

Hung high and wide, drapes draw the eye up and make windows and ceilings look bigger.

Softness and quiet

Layers of fabric soften hard walls and floors, and help a busy street sound a little farther away.

Perfect over shades

Layer drapes over a shade for the darkest bedroom, or over a solar shade for a finished living room.

Your options

We bring fabric books to your free estimate and measure from ceiling to floor, so your drapes hang exactly right.

1. Choose a heading style

Ripple fold

Smooth, even waves on a track. Modern and clean, and glides open easily.

Pinch pleat

Tailored pleats stitched at the top. Classic and elegant.

Grommet

Metal rings slide along a rod. Relaxed, with deep folds.

2. Choose a lining

SheerSoft daylight and a hint of privacy. Lovely layered with heavier drapes.
LinedFuller drape, privacy, and protection from fading.
Blackout linedBlocks light and covers the window edges. Pair with a blackout shade for a pitch-dark room.

3. Hang them high and wide

Hung low and narrow

Drapes cover the glass when open and the window looks small.

Hung high and wide

Mounted near the ceiling and past the frame. The window looks bigger and drapes open clear of the glass.

Tip

Radiator under the window? Floor-length drapes over a radiator trap heat. We’ll suggest a ceiling track that clears it, sill-length drapes, or a Roman shade instead.

Are drapes right for you?

An honest guide. If drapes aren’t the best fit, we’ll tell you at your estimate.

Great for

  • Living rooms that need warmth and a finished look.
  • Bedrooms, blackout lined and layered over a shade.
  • Wide windows and balcony doors.
  • Rooms with high ceilings you want to show off.

Think twice if

  • There’s a radiator right under the window. Consider sill-length drapes or Roman shades.
  • The room is very small. Drapes need wall space on each side; a shade may fit better.
  • It’s a kitchen or bathroom. Fabric holds moisture and grease; faux wood blinds work better.

Drape questions

How long should my drapes be?

For a tailored look, drapes should just kiss the floor or stop about half an inch above it. That’s why we measure each window ourselves: NYC floors and ceilings are rarely perfectly level.

Should I get drapes, shades, or both?

Shades handle the daily light control, and drapes add softness and frame the window. Together they give you the most control and the most finished look, especially in bedrooms.

Will blackout drapes make my room completely dark?

They block a lot of light, and because they extend past the window, they cover the edges well. Light can still come in at the top and middle where panels meet. For a pitch-dark room, layer them over a blackout shade.

How do I clean drapes?

Vacuum them gently with a brush attachment every few weeks. For a deep clean, use a professional cleaner; most lined and blackout drapes shouldn’t go in a home washing machine.
